Next-Generation Sequencing for Infectious Disease Research

Dr. Milani develops and applies next-generation sequencing and genomic approaches for pathogen surveillance, outbreak investigation, and blood safety research. Her work includes method development and validation for targeted amplicon sequencing, probe-based target capture, and metagenomic sequencing to enable sensitive and comprehensive detection of pathogens in low-titer blood samples.

In addition, she applies transcriptomics, immune repertoire analysis, and host profiling approaches to support studies of host–pathogen interactions, immune response characterization, precision medicine, and molecular characterization of blood transfusion products.
