Dr. Susanne Marschner is the vice president of research and science programs at Vitalant, and the director of the Vitalant Innovation Center. Dr. Marschner has a broad background in cell biology, blood banking and medical device development. Her current research is focused on optimizing blood component collection, processing and storage, and bringing new medical devices to market. She has been the principal investigator on several preclinical studies for medical device manufacturers and oversees the manufacturing of investigational products for clinical trials.

The Vitalant Innovation Center, established in 2021, is directly affiliated with Vitalant Research Institute and is focused on translational science. The Innovation Center acts as a “sandbox” that facilitates development and validation of new products before implementation into a regulated environment within the blood center. In addition, the Center offers research blood products and specialized collections, and laboratory services in its Denver and San Francisco locations to support internal research and external partners.
